Cooperation With Other Clubs Gets the Job Done
Several years ago our club began a joint project with the Rotary Club of Eastwick-Airport, which supports worthwhile activities in Southwest Philadelphia. Food insecurity is a problem there with many households, particularly among elderly residents living alone. The Eastwick club with help from Lower Main Line purchases, packages and delivers Thanksgiving meals to these residents. A morning of work each year to pull all the ingredients together and get them delivered has brought our clubs closer.
For Thanksgiving, 2022, Rotarians George Hatzfeld, Mejire Arijaje and Lower Main Line Rotary president Richard Li joined Southwest Philly-Eastwick’s Cheryl Snipes Burkett to prepare Thanksgiving food baskets to be distributed.
When the Covid-19 pandemic broke out in the spring of 2020, we partnered with the Rotary Club of Haverford Township to set out 100 lawn signs urging our communities to mask up.
