Rotaract — Building Rotary Values for the Future
Beginning in 2014, our club re-invigorated the Rotaract Club of Saint Joseph’s University, and it has survived student turnover by graduation and a two-year pandemic to emerge ready to resume its role.
Rotaract typically attracts college students, young professionals and entrepreneurs age 18-30. Its clubs are usually sponsored by a local Rotary. Rotaract SJU enjoys the support of our club with a little funding for projects it undertakes, for transportation to district Rotaract events, and for supplying documents and promotional materials that facilitate club activities.
Rotaract SJU has benefited from both graduate school leadership and undergraduates who have learned about Rotary through their high school Interact club. Members have joined with Lower Main Line Rotarians to prepare Thanksgiving meals, and traveled to Project C.U.R.E. in Southern Chester County to sort medical supplies. They have done fundraisers on campus for causes both foreign and local. With counterparts from around the district, they even got in an afternoon of volleyball just for fun.
Leadership and club activities in Rotaract are valuable experience after graduation, when a chance to join a Rotary club in a distant city can mean access to community leaders and a network to trust.
